ABOUT CUMC

Embracing All, Sharing Christ, Serving Others

Clarendon United Methodist Church is nestled in the heart of the Ashton Heights neighborhood of Arlington, Virginia. We are striving each day as individuals and as a community to Live the Love of Christ in everything we do.  "Living Love" has been our theme since 2016 and we pledge as followers of Jesus to show this love to all.

We are an active congregation of families, young professionals, older adults, children, and youth who are committed to:

  • Praising God passionately through our worship
  • Serving others in Christian love
  • Deepening our faith through the study of  the Bible
  • Proclaiming the Good News that is our salvation in Jesus Christ.

We strive to live out our faith, acting with Christian love, respect and forgiveness toward one another, and recognizing that we are all members of one body of Christ.

OUR HISTORY

CUMC began in 1901 as a small Sunday school gathering. The first church building was constructed in 1906 near North Jackson and Irving Streets, two blocks north of Wilson Boulevard. The current building at 606 North Irving Street was built in 1941, expanded in 1951 to include the three-story Education Wing, and again in 2001 to renovate much of the building and add an accessible entrance on Ivy Street.

Throughout the years, Clarendon UMC has provided vital worship, community support and a rich diversity of people coming to glorify God in everything it does. On our 100 year commemoration, we celebrated this rich history with a chronicle of who we are.
